A1) Find out an example of Alliteration from the poem and explain it.

 Answer-  Designed to sit close to it, just like a saddle.

 In this line the sound ‘s’  is repeated

(This is a figure  of speech consists in the repetition of one or more similar sounds or letters at the beginning of two or more words)

 A2) Name and explain the figure of speech in the given line and find out one more example of the same.

 Between nose and eyes strange contest arose

 Answer- The figure of speech is Inversion -the word order of the sentence is changed for poetic effect ,it should be ‘ A strange contest arose between nose and eyes’.

Example- But what were  his arguments few people know.

A3) Find out an example of Alliteration and explain

    Answer =   To which the said spectacles ought to belong

    In this line the sound ,’ s’ repeated to give musical quality to the poem.

A4) Name and explain the figure of speech from the given line

       while chief Baron ear sat to balance The laws.

     Metaphor -in the given line Ear is indirectly compared with a powerful person     like  Baron.

( When an indirect comparison is made it is called metaphor or in other word it is a implied simile .In a simile two different objects are compared by means of such words as LIKE AND AS)

A5) Then shifting his side, as a lawyer knows how 

               Name the figure of speech and explain it

   Answer  = Simile - in the given line Tongue is directly compared with a lawyer who shifts / changes his side.

(a simile is  a definite expression of  a likeness between  two objects or at least one point in common)

A6)  Find out an example of Simile from the poem and explain it.

 Answer-  Designed to sit close to it, just like a saddle. In this line there is a direct comparison between the saddle and the spectacles.

A7)Find out two examples of inversion

    *a} That the spectacles plainly where made for the nose

Explanation -The word order of the sentence is not proper it should be like ,

        That spectacles were plainly  made for the nose

          *b}  What were his arguments few people know

Inversion- In this line the word order of the sentence is not proper.

 It should be  , ’  few people know what were his arguments.’

A8) Name the figure of speech in the given line and explain .

            By daylight or candle light it should be shut.

Alliteration- the sound ‘ s’ is repeated in the line to create musical effect  .

 oxymoron- in this line two opposite words are placed side by side to enhance the effect.

A9)Find out an example of anticlimax

           who would or who could , wear spectacles then ?

Anticlimax- Ideas are arranged in the ascending order of importance.

 Interrogation- it is a question where no answer is expected from The reader.
