Appreciation of the poem Indian Weavers
A) About poet of poem title
Sarojini Naidu was a political activist and the first woman to hold the office of Governor in independent India. She is also known as the Nightingale of India.She has written this short narrative poem Indian Weavers which highlights three types of garments that the Weavers weave at the three particular times of a day. The poem also highlights tradition and culture and importance of the colours during the life journey
B) Theme of the poem
In this poem the poet speaks about three different and important stages of life and it relates them with the different colours and different parts of the day morning, evening and night time. Birth is the first stage blue cloth is woven, the second stage of life that is marriage Green and Purple cloth is woven and finally White cloth for Dead Is woven.
C) language and style
This poem is written in a question answer pattern the poetess has uses very simple and rhythmical language. The poem has musical words, the rhyme scheme of the poem is" a a b b". All these things enhance the beauty of the poem.
D) poetic devices
The poem had different types of figure of speeches,like simile, inversion, metaphor, alliteration. There are three stanzas having four lines and every third line of the stanza has simile. The poetess has used different imagery and pictorial words.
E) special features
The poem has symbolism,philosophy as a speciality of the poem. The three stages of human life from birth to death represented by hard work of Weavers from Dawn to night.
F) my opinion
I like simplicity of the poem, pictorial qualities and the representation of Indian tradition through different colours.
